Sermon Sketch

Another sermon sketch. David Harrop is speaking from Romans right now - I was especially struck with Romans 3 verses 23 and then 24. This is the picture that came to mind. I especially liked David's "It not about being good enough" phrase. Note my campaign buttons at the bottom.

During the worship time we sang the following song. I loved these lyrics...
"The Power of the Cross"
Words and Music by Keith Getty & Stuart Townend
Copyright © 2005 Thankyou Music

Oh, to see the dawn
Of the darkest day:
Christ on the road to Calvary.
Tried by sinful men,
Torn and beaten, then
Nailed to a cross of wood.

CHORUS:
This, the pow'r of the cross:
Christ became sin for us;
Took the blame, bore the wrath—
We stand forgiven at the cross.

Oh, to see the pain
Written on Your face,
Bearing the awesome weight of sin.
Ev'ry bitter thought,
Ev'ry evil deed
Crowning Your bloodstained brow.

Now the daylight flees;
Now the ground beneath
Quakes as its Maker bows His head.
Curtain torn in two,
Dead are raised to life;
"Finished!" the vict'ry cry.

Oh, to see my name
Written in the wounds,
For through Your suffering I am free.
Death is crushed to death;
Life is mine to live,
Won through Your selfless love.

FINAL CHORUS:
This, the pow'r of the cross:
Son of God—slain for us.
What a love! What a cost!
We stand forgiven at the cross.

I love the sketch, Tim. Reminds me of the Navigator's illustration, but with some more to it. A powerful illustration indeed!

I haven't heard this song, however Stuart Townend is an incredibly gifted writer in my opinion. I think I need to go find a version of it and have a listen.

I found your website b/c you did a review of the canteo notebook. I am a Christian and I started scrolling through your posts. You have such a huge talent. I love you drawings, you have such a talent to turn scripture into something visual. What a great innovative way to get the Word across. God has truly blessed you, I look forward to your posts in the future.

Maria, Thank you for your kind comment. I really appreciate it. How do you know about the Canteo Notebooks? I just bought another one on the weekend when I was in Switzerland for the day. I love that product. TS

Intense - thank you - I am inspired by simplicity of gospel images.

Back in the saddle again and thinking of a title for my new 'Principal out of hours' blog - any ideas?
